This weeks review is trainer distractions. I personally am easily distracted all the time. Just look at me writing up this blog entry. I should be doing something else. Here is what I do.
I turn on the tv and watch FX lately. They have been playing some action flicks that I have seen. Just be careful of car chase scenes because you might turn with the cars. Another one that messed me up was this one video game commercial of this one Asian chick jumping from building to building out running guys shooting at her.
If not I will watch tbs because of family guy is on for like 2 hours. That can be dangerous also. And then if it is real late I will watch the office reruns. Now granted this stuff is only really being sort of paid attention to. When I am doing some of my efforts I am just looking at how beautiful my legs look. I mean those things are just beautiful when engorged with blood.
That leads me to the other distraction. A mirror. Nothing like seeing your horrible form in a mirror. My beautiful face along with my statuesque legs are paired with a horrible looking torso. I mean just god awful. You know how you see some hot chick with a beautiful face walk around the counter revealing the rest of herself, and you go damn what the hell happened there. I got that. You also think to yourself, I would still hit it but man she would be perfect if she did not have rhino butt. So I look in the mirror for a good distraction. Plus it helps on positioning.
Another distraction I have is drinking on the freaking rollers. You have to slow down a little bit to take a drink. Now think how many times do you keep pedaling when drinking on the road. You probably stop pedaling while you take a swig. Well on the rollers I feel that I do not have that option. So I do a delicate handling of the bottle, because if I drop it I have to get off the bike and get going again. And this now leads me to my best water bottle purchase in a long time.
I bought the GEL-Bot water bottles, www.gel-bot.com, from hammer with my order of Hammer Gel(expresso). Now I have not ridden with them outside in the cold to see how bad the would freeze up but I do not really plan on riding them in the cold all to often. I just like how easy they are to use for riding the rollers since I am not carrying any pockets while riding inside.
The gel-bot has a flask inside that gets filled with your gel/gu of choice. You dispense it by either sucking or squeezing the bottle. I am completely amazed how easy the stuff comes out unlike a flask you would carry in your back pocket. Plus the plunger in the bottom of the flask almost insures your not going to have a serving of gel still in the bottle like conventional flasks. I love this when I am doing my 1-2 hour rides on the rollers since I only have to grab for my bottle which can be a distraction, I try to do a whole session non stop and this bottle helps.
The Flask carries 3.2 ounces of gel. According to hammer for a guy my size 3 servings of the gel is recommended for my weight. In case your wondering a serving of hammer gel is 2 tablespoons and that equals 1 ounce.
I still like my polar bottle for freezing conditions and hundred degree days. I just hope if I am in a road race nobody steals my feed of this 15 dollar bottle. The nice thing is if the bottle gets ruined you can switch the cap and flask on a specialized bottle. The company states that.
